Video shows extreme speed on a motorcycle – news Rogaland – Local news, TV and radio

The man was arrested by the police in May last year after being observed at very high speed on his motorcycle twice earlier in the day. On the motorcycle, the police seized a small video camera. There they found films that showed extensive rough driving from July 2020 to May 2021. The worst case occurred on the E39 in Stavanger. On the evening of 10 September, he drove through the Eiganestunnel at an extremely high speed. The video shows that the 31-year-old made a number of overtakes, one of which was on the inside of the car he was passing. The speedometer shows 292 kilometers per hour in the video, despite the fact that there is an 80-zone on the spot. The police believe the real speed is 263 kilometers per hour. In another case, the man filmed himself at 210 kilometers per hour (234 kilometers per hour on the speedometer), despite the fact that there is a 60-zone on the spot. The police have subsequently tested the speedometer, and it shows that the real speed is somewhat lower than what the speedometer shows. There could have been even more cases In total, the indictment consisted of 56 serious speeding offences, but there could have been more. – The videos are shown in court, so everything is shown there. But in the prosecution decision I only included the 56 most serious cases, says police attorney Sveinung Andersen. Police attorney Sveinung Andersen has never experienced the equivalent of reckless driving. Photo: Marthe Synnøve Johannessen / news Andersen did not find any similar sentences in the Norwegian legal system when he had to submit a request for punishment for the 31-year-old ex-motorcyclist from Jæren. – I am not aware of similar cases with the same scope and seriousness. There have probably been some cases with higher speeds, but here the scale was so incredibly high, says Andersen. Severe punishment Sør-Rogaland district court did not believe the man’s explanation that he had borrowed his motorcycle, and that it was not him who was driving when the videos were filmed. The district court has therefore sentenced the man to 1.5 years in prison. In addition, the man is denied the right to hold a driving license forever. – It is extremely important that he loses the right to a driving licence. Such people should not have the “note”. Here, traffic safety is not taken seriously, and then it is important that they are weeded out from the traffic, says Andersen. The district court writes in the judgment that the defendant “has created very dangerous traffic situations where the risk of danger or causing damage has been significant”. – It is only coincidence that has meant that there has not been a fatal accident from reckless driving, says the police attorney. Will probably be appealed The man’s defender, Frode Jæger Folkestad, has not been able to discuss the verdict with his client. – The man is previously unpunished and has no convictions. The sentence is severe. My advice is that he appeals, but we will discuss this when my client has had a chance to familiarize himself with the judgment, says Jæger Folkestad. In court, the man was adamant that the police had caught the wrong person. – He says that it is not he who has driven the motorcycle at these times and places, but that he has lent it to some friends, says the defender.
