– There were no verbal attacks at the spring camp, but the atmosphere was still very tense and very unpleasant. We were able to do what we had to, because we managed to close out the unpleasant background. Not because the union took action, claims Nordås. Last week, news revealed that there was an incident between Henrik Ingebrigtsen and Nordås during a training camp in Sierra Nevada in January, which Nordås described as an “unwanted incident”. Sports manager Erlend Slokvik said in connection with news’s disclosure that the incident was “a discussion about a small thing”. Both Nordås and the Ingebrigtsen brothers were again in the Sierra Nevada in April. Following Tuesday’s national team presentation, Slokvik told news that they experienced a camp that “went very well”. – What worked in April versus January? – I guess it’s a bit of a matter of being careful about the frameworks and agreements that are made, said Slokvik, and continued: – There are agreements that go into when they train at the various arenas, which we have actually done all the way through this year. That is the description Nordås is now reacting to. news has submitted the statements to Nordås for Slokvik: – The report from the camp in April was that things worked and that they trained well. The wishes of the various groups were taken into account, replies the sports director. – Indications of very weak handling Athletics coach Knut Jæger Hansen said on Sunday that he notified the sporting management in the association about the incident, an incident which he himself characterized as “a degree of bullying and harassment that we absolutely must not accept”. – The incident had zero consequences for Henrik, and based on what I have heard from reliable sources, he showed zero remorse afterwards. In other words, it indicates a very weak handling on the part of the Norwegian Athletics Federation, claims Nordås. – We have responded to the case in January, and have no further comments, Slokvik replies regarding Nordås’ claim about the association’s handling of the case. It has been followed up in accordance with the guidelines we have. When asked whether the case has had consequences for Henrik Ingebrigtsen, Slokvik has previously said that it has been followed up with those involved. Top sports manager Håvard Tjørhom said at the weekend that they had spoken to Ingebrigtsen about the incident afterwards. – I know it (the incident) was experienced as very direct and confrontational. The way it was communicated was taken up afterwards with Henrik. BREAKTHROUGH YEAR: 2023 was the year when Narve Gilje Nordås really broke through at the top of the world. The Ingebrigtsen brothers leave a few days later. They will then be in the Sierra Nevada at the same time for large parts of November. According to Slokvik, it has been a wish from both the Ingebrigtsen camp and the Nordås camp to have the opportunity to train in peace and quiet. – Who wants that? – Narve clearly wants that, but Jakob wants that too. – Why does Nordås want that? – There has been a bit between Narve and Henrik, and then we arrange for him to be sheltered, in the same way that we arrange for Jakob to be sheltered around the needs he has, said Slokvik. It is again a description that Nordås does not recognize. – I am not trying to avoid anyone, nor have I asked to be shielded. It was rather the case that we had to report when and where we trained, so that they could avoid us, not the other way around, says Nordås. Ingebrigtsen wants peace and security Henrik Ingebrigtsen has not commented on Nordås’ statements in this matter. In connection with Sunday’s case about the incident in January, he wrote: – I have said what I have to say about that situation. I remind you that the athletics association has taken decisions on an ongoing basis after talking to everyone involved. Ingebrigtsen then added that those involved should comply with decisions, agreements and framework conditions set by the union. – Our need is peace and security to train, perform and do all the other things that are needed to cut new seconds and tenths. This applies at home and in the Sierra Nevada, Ingebrigtsen wrote at the time.
