Understanding the Movistar WiFi 7 Router
The router is a device that often remains unnoticed until there’s a WiFi failure or a new model catches our attention. Movistar has introduced its WiFi 7 Router, raising questions among customers about how to obtain it, especially if they already pay for fiber services. While acquiring the router is straightforward, getting it for free can be a bit tricky.
What the New Router Delivers
Movistar’s new WiFi 7 Router goes beyond just a rebranded device. According to the operator, it offers a staggering 70% increase in traffic capacity, a 50% reduction in latency, and a 10% improvement in coverage compared to its predecessor. These enhancements are particularly beneficial for homes with multiple devices—think mobile phones, laptops, TVs, cameras, game consoles, and various smart home gadgets—all trying to share the same network. The WiFi 7 Router includes 10 internal antennas and supports features like EasyMesh, WPA3 security, a 10 Gbps high-speed port, and three Gigabit Ethernet ports.
The Easiest Way to Obtain It
The simplest route to obtain the WiFi 7 Router at no additional cost is by enrolling in Movistar’s 10 Gbps fiber plan. This applies to new registrations, customers switching from other operators, or existing Movistar clients upgrading their service. In these scenarios, the installation of the new router is included without extra fees. Essentially, the previous model only supported WiFi 6, making this upgrade necessary for enhanced performance.
Not All New Customers Qualify
Interestingly, being a new customer does not guarantee the WiFi 7 Router will be included for free. Movistar will offer the router without charge for new miMovistar convergent rate registrations effective from February 16, 2026. It is featured in the miMovistar Unlimited plan with 1 Gbps fiber and the 600 Mbps fiber plan. However, if someone opts for fiber-only plans at 300 Mbps, 600 Mbps, or 1 Gbps, the Smart WiFi 6 router will be provided instead.
The Cost of Getting the WiFi 7 Router
If the WiFi 7 Router is not automatically included with the plan, customers have the option to purchase it. Movistar offers two choices: the self-installation kit for 60 euros, or professional installation for 110 euros. These options apply to current customers wanting to transition from Smart WiFi 6 to the latest model, along with anyone signing up for a plan that doesn’t include WiFi 7. Orders can be made via the website, in stores, or through their customer service number, 1004.
In summary, while Movistar’s WiFi 7 Router offers appealing advancements and can be obtained at no cost under certain conditions, customers should carefully review their plan details and installation options to make the best choice for their home networking needs.
