All Norwegian F-35 combat aircraft must be upgraded within 90 days. This is written by the Defense Forum. This happens after an American F35B plane crashed on a runway in Fort Worth, Texas, in mid-December last year. According to Defense News, the problem is possible vibrations in the aircraft engine, which is of the Pratt & Whitney F135 type. Special adviser Endre Lunde in Defense Material tells the Defense Forum that such maintenance specifications are quite common. The slightly unusual thing is that the fault was discovered after an accident, and not in connection with routine maintenance. – Such updates are routine. It is not unusual for a deadline of 90 days. We did it all the time with the F-16, says Lunde. The upgrade that needs to be done takes only four to eight hours, and does not result in more aircraft being grounded. The F-35 aircraft are stationed at Ørland air station in Trøndelag and at the QRA base at Evenes in Nordland.
