Unfortunate news for Charlotte Gainsbourg: a decision was made without her input, courtesy of Teknomers.

At 53 years old, Charlotte Gainsbourg continues her exhilarating artistic career. The partner of Yvan Attal returned to the United States, where she lived following the death of her sister Kate Barry. For several months, she filmed in the series Étoile, released on the Prime Video platform. In this role, she portrays Geneviève Lavigne, the director of the  Paris National Ballet . Thus, the fiction unfolds between  France  and  North America , showcasing the ruthless world of dance and performance. This role resonated deeply with Charlotte Gainsbourg, as she revealed to our colleagues at Le Parisien: “There were comical features in her character that I embraced, real moments of madness. We are somewhat opposites; she hides her vulnerability while I display mine. She appears strong on the outside but is fragile within, while I am fragile externally, yet strong internally.”

Charlotte Gainsbourg: A Major Setback for Her Career

Although she thoroughly enjoyed portraying this character, Yvan Attal’s partner received some unfortunate news.  Prime Video  has decided not to renew  the first season of  Étoile. “The decision not to pursue a second season for this series is based on the disparity between its success and the project’s costs. This choice isn’t linked to any organizational changes at Amazon MGM studios, as  Étoile  was commissioned by the former director, Jennifer Salke, who left in March,” reported our colleagues from Deadline. The project seems  too expensive . “However, the series has reignited the conversation surrounding the future of the arts. Born from the pandemic that shut down theaters,  Étoile  is a love letter to ballet and the dance world, urging people to help keep the arts alive,” they added.

Therefore, Charlotte Gainsbourg has no say in this decision and will have to relinquish her role on television. For this unique experience, the actress won’t have the opportunity to see her character’s journey continue between New York and Paris. Speaking with TV Mag Le Figaro, she conveyed the goal of this project, which meant so much to her: “The series primarily addresses art, this particular art form, and the ballet world that has suffered greatly. I lack classical dance background. Nonetheless, it seems to me that it’s about infusing modernity into French opera on one side and a dose of finesse and taste into the American company on the other side. This, all within an homage that lasts for eight episodes, driven by a genuine passion for dance.”
