– It was not a message that we expected to receive, says Rosenborg player Mathilde Alsaker Rogde to news. She must stay at home in the charging for this year’s season in the Toppserien. For Rosenborg is the only team in the Toppserien that does not travel to a training camp in Spain before the season and the only one of the ten Toppserien teams that does not participate in the Toppserien week in Marbella (March 1-8). All the clubs that participate there receive NOK 150,000 in support from the interest organization Toppfotball Kvinner. – It is very strange that the club in the Toppserien with the highest budget, and which has had it for several years, drops it, says news’s football expert Carl-Erik Torp. The chairman of Rosenborg Women, Ørjan Engen, tells news that a training camp would cost a total of around NOK 450,000 before the possible support from Topfotball Kvinner. – We take that into consideration when we make an assessment. Then we expect that we will have to pay 300,000 for a training camp, says Engen. – Unfair Rogde tells news that they have received a review of why things turned out the way they did, and the priorities that were taken, and says that she understands them. – But at the same time we had an expectation that we were going to a training camp, so everyone thinks it was boring and disappointing, she says. Photo: Ole Martin Wold / NTB Boyfriend Adrian Pereira, who plays on the men’s team, gets 26 days in Spain to prepare for this year’s season, Adresseavisen wrote earlier in January. – It sounds a bit silly when we are merged and everything. And then we’re not going to do anything. Of course, it’s a bit annoying. But we wish them all that, by all means, says Rogde. – We have just as much desire and deserve it just as much, so of course it feels unfair, it does, she says. Different priorities Rosenborg’s women’s and men’s teams were merged into one club on 1 January. It was then decided that each of the teams would be responsible for its own income and expenses. – The merger involved both teams having to support themselves. That is the reason why we do it this way, says chairman Engen. The reason why the women’s team does not go on a training camp is a financial priority. – In consultation with the coaches and managers on the women’s side, the assessment was made that they chose to prioritize more permanent changes, such as more coaches, better diet plans, and good trips around matches in Norway, rather than traveling for one week to Marbella, says general manager in Rosenborg, Tore Bjørseth Berdal, to news. UNDERSTAND THE FRUSTRATION: General Manager in Rosenborg, Tore Bjørseth Berdal. Photo: news He understands that Rogde feels it is unfair that they are not allowed to go on a trip. – Unfortunately, we don’t have the opportunity to do everything we want. In consultation with the coaches and managers of the women’s team, we have made a sporting priority where we have chosen to equip the system around it, says Berdal. – It is very special. I understand that the players think it’s crazy, says football expert Torp. The chairman says they would like to be able to afford both a training camp and to strengthen the surrounding apparatus. – We have increased investment in physiotherapists and increased investment in trainers. A training week in Spain lasts one week. You have a physiotherapist all year round. We would like to be able to afford both, but we can’t, says Engen. – How much is NOK 300,000 for Rosenborg? – We probably have a turnover of some 20 million. It doesn’t sound like much, but most of our players now have a salary they can live on. We have increased them in the last two years. We have expanded the sporting equipment significantly. The costs just fly away, so we had to weigh this up against each other a bit, says Engen. Wants the board to turn around Rogde talks about a squad of players with mixed feelings after they are the only Toppserie club that does not travel to Spain. – What is perhaps the most annoying is that “pre season” is something nice to look forward to. You come to a different environment and that’s good for the social scene, she says. REACTS: news’s football expert Carl-Erik Torp. Photo: news – Training camp is very important for working on concrete things in the field, but at the same time building relationships and getting closer as a group. It is rare that you do not see teams prioritizing it in their budgets, says Torp. Rogde now wants the Rosenborg board to reverse its decision, if possible – It would have been fun if they had made it happen without it affecting other important things. We had expected, as always, that we would go to a training camp, and we will do that again next year. We expect this to only happen this year, says Rogde.
