6 November 2023 at 04:33 UN leaders with a joint call for a ceasefire in Gaza The top leaders of all the most important UN organizations have agreed on a rare joint statement in which they call for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza. The heads of, among others, Unicef, the World Food Program (WPF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) describe the terrible losses on both sides since Hamas’ attack on Israel on 7 October. Around 1,400 were killed in the attack, most of them civilians, according to Israeli authorities. They are asking Hamas to release more than 240 hostages who were taken to the Gaza Strip on October 7. The UN leaders ask both sides to fulfill their obligations under international law while the war rages on. They also say that more food, water, medicine and fuel must be allowed in to help the people of Gaza. – We need an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. 30 days have passed. Enough is enough. This must end now, says the statement. (NTB)
