The modernized T-72 Avenger tank from the Soviet era cost around NOK 14 million and is ready for delivery, reports Reuters. Under the motto “A gift to Putin”, the collection has received support from both the Czech Ministry of Defense and the Ukrainian Embassy in Prague, writes the BBC. Czech Defense Minister Jana Cernochova writes on Twitter that this is a fitting gift for the Russian president on the occasion of his 70th birthday on 7 October. The Czech ambassador Yevhen Perebyynis writes on Twitter that the Czech Republic is the first country where “ordinary people have bought a tank”. In May this year, thousands of ordinary people in Lithuania collected money for a state-of-the-art TB2 Bayraktar drone that was given to Ukraine. More than NOK 60 million was collected in just three days.
