18 December 2023 at 18:40 UiO-affiliated researcher killed in Gaza A researcher affiliated with the University of Oslo has been killed in Gaza, the university itself reports. UiO receives the news of the death with great sadness. The researcher was employed at a university in Gaza, and part of a collaborative project led by UiO and supported by Norad. – Our deepest condolences go to the family and all colleagues in Gaza and in Norway, says rector Svein Stølen at UiO in a press release. According to UiO, the researcher was killed on 17 December in an Israeli bomb attack. – We are grateful for the cooperation we have had over several years. The deaths remind us that war and conflict affect a civilian population without protection. We condemn all violations of international law, we encourage the protection of civilians and the provision of humanitarian assistance. Together with the rest of society, we will do our part to help vulnerable researchers and students on the run, says Stølen.
