Five police officers have previously been fired and are charged with murder after American Tire Nichols (29) died on 10 January. Nichols was pulled over by police in the city of Memphis on the evening of January 7 for what they believed to be reckless driving. The officers allegedly pulled Nichols out of the car he was driving and punched and kicked him repeatedly. The police are also said to have used electric shock weapons against Nichols, while he was lying on the ground. Police video shows Nichols yelling at his mother as he was attacked by the officers. The last two dismissed police officers are now under investigation.
