The reason for the cancellation is the forest fires that are ravaging the popular Greek holiday island. Strong winds in recent days have meant that the fire has spread across the island and made extinguishing it difficult for the fire crews. The travel companies Ving and Apollo have previously canceled travel to the affected areas on Sunday, but not the entire island as Tui is now doing. Over 30,000 people have been evacuated from the threatening forest fire that is out of control in Rhodes. The fire service has categorized the entire east coast of the Greek mainland, as well as the islands of Evvia and Rhodes, as category 5 areas, i.e. the highest on a scale for risk of fire.
