It was the news agency Tass that first mentioned a proposal from the politician Yevgeny Moskvichev. He is a member of Russia’s legislative assembly, the State Duma. He suggested that vehicles must agree on a date and time to enter or leave Russia. According to Tass, the proposal should apply to border crossings in general and all vehicles, whether they are owned by Russians or foreigners, private individuals or companies. It appeared to be a general obstacle to traffic to and from Russia. But in an interview with the channel RBC, Moskvichev tells about the background for the proposal. The purpose is only to avoid long queues at border crossings. Contrary to what was stated in the written proposal, he believes that it should only apply to the transport of goods. Nor should it apply to all borders, but only where there are problems today. Moskvichev mentions three border crossings with China, Azerbaijan and Georgia in particular. The confusion that arose after the proposal was also discussed by the BBC. In the first version of this case, the Barents Secretariat was interviewed about possible restrictions for crossing the border at Storskog. That interview took place on the terms Tass originally reported, and has therefore been removed from the case.
