In four places in Western Norway, the temperature was not below 20 degrees between 20:00 and 08:00. The cities can thus boast of tropical nights on the eve of an otherwise rainy summer. The mild August night affected the whole of Western Norway, and several people fought to get tropical nights. – Right up until the morning break, several places were involved in the battle for tropical night, says state meteorologist Julie Solsvik Vågane. In the end, it was Tafjord and Åndalsnes in Møre and Romsdal, Lærdal in Vestland and Fister in Rogaland that had temperatures over 20 degrees, well above the “finish line”. In 2021, six nights of tropical nights were measured in different places in the country, the year before, 12 tropical nights were measured. This was the tenth night so far in 2022 with a tropical night in the country, but August is not an unusual month with such measurements, says Hanne Heiberg, climate watcher at the Meteorological Institute. The last recorded tropical night was at Kråkenes lighthouse, 24 September 1938. WARM NIGHTS: In addition to the three on the map, Åndalsnes in Møre and Romsdal also had tropical nights. When she got up at night to check, the thermometer showed 21.5 degrees. – I didn’t think it was true. It was okay to sleep. I could feel the heat, but with the window wide open it was fine, says the lärdølen. The community Roger Nedberge Hille tells on the Facebook page “Sogn og Fjordane i bilde” about 23.4 degrees on the wall at his home. At the latest in July, the tropical night was measured in several places in Rogaland, on the same night Bergen just missed the tropical night. No more tropical nights. In some places in Western Norway, the temperature will reach 20 degrees today. From Friday, the temperature will mostly stay below 15 degrees and this will last through the weekend. This also applies to large parts of Møre and Romsdal and Trøndelag. The night temperature will remain below 10 degrees, the meteorologist says, and thus there are no more tropical nights in store for the first time. – It’s probably over for this time, says Vågane. Warm weekend ahead This weekend, good weather is expected in the capital, even if tropical nights are out of the question. – In Austlandet, sun and 20 degrees are expected throughout the weekend, says the meteorologist. The first of July this year was the first tropical night of the year for the capital. In the north, a change of weather is expected on Saturday and Sunday and Vågane encourages you to enjoy the good weather while you can. – For Northern Norway, it is wise to enjoy Friday before entering a grayer weekend
