The three northernmost counties in the country are the most fun. Photo: Trond Odin Myhre Johansen / news Since the early 2000s, it has been measured which revue numbers have generated the loudest noise from the audience at the NM in revue at Høylandet in Trøndelag. There, the three northernmost counties in the country now top the statistics. – There is nowhere else where you have a similar competition, so it is clear that Northern Norwegian humor at least hits the audience here, says Truls Berge. He works as a researcher at Sintef in Trondheim. For over 40 years he has been researching noise from Norwegian roads, but almost 20 years ago he also started measuring the sound level at the revue festival. The north is more fun than the south If Nord-Trøndelag had still been a county, they would have topped the statistics. Since Sør-Trøndelag is also part of the calculation now, Trøndelag has ended up behind the whole of Northern Norway. Johansen and Elisabethsdatter Bjørn in Isbjørnmafian think the humor from the north appeals to people because you speak a little from the liver. – We know Oluf and we know Rorbua and all that. It hits home nationally, says sound researcher Berge. How are the measurements made? At the revue festival, the sound levels are mainly measured because an audience prize is to be awarded. The number that receives the highest response from the audience wins. Such a prize is awarded in each semi-final, leading to direct qualification to the final. You therefore measure which number gets the loudest applause, laughter, shouting and whistling. It is the highest value measured under the number that takes effect. It is measured in decibels (dB), with an accuracy of one-tenth of a decibel. So that a person sitting close to the microphone cannot decide the whole thing with a loud whistle, the microphone hangs on a mast above the audience. Several microphones have been laid out as backup. But when it comes to the difference between north and south in Trøndelag, Johansen in Isbjørnmafian does not think that the north is more fun than the south. Elisabethsdatter Bjørn agrees with that. – It may be that the south and the north have different types of humour, says Elisabethsdatter Bjørn. Both north and south won prizes Marthe Nygård in Lånkerevyen says after the final, where several people from South Trondheim also won, that they are well on their way to climbing again. – The beauty of revue and humor is that it is different. No one has the same sense of humor, and what makes me smile may not be what makes you smile. In the countryside you can perhaps joke more with the people who work at the local shop, but in the cities you have a more urban humour. Both Lånkerevyen and Litj-Lånkerevyen won prizes at the revue festival. Lånkerevyen for best sketch and Litj-Lånkerevyen for this year’s revue issue. So the people of Trondheim still know how to assert themselves. Lånkerevyen won the prize for best sketch with “Skoleavslutninga”.
