Magny Torhild Roland Bransdal was mayor of Vennesla in Agder from 1999 to 2017 and representative of the Storting in the period 2017–2021. On Wednesday, she died in the palliative care unit at the Center for Cancer Treatment at Sørlandet Hospital. – Torhild died peacefully with her loved ones around her. The last thing Torhild said was: “I am safe”, the family writes in a press release. The family would like to thank Torhild for everything she meant to them, as a spouse, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. They are also grateful for the care and support both Torhild and they received in connection with Torhild’s illness. The family writes that at the beginning of this month they were able to travel with her on a family trip on the coastal route along the Norwegian coast, just as Torhild herself had wanted. Brandsdal was born on 10 April 1956. She was 66 years old. – A fearless voice Nils Olav Larsen (KrF) took over as mayor of Vennesla after Brandsdal in 2017. He describes her as a fearless person with a warm heart. – When I took over I noticed that the weak in society were used to talking to the mayor. They were used to her being there for them and having time to listen, he says. Throughout his time as mayor, he has asked her for advice several times. Most recently a couple of weeks ago. – I have benefited a lot from the knowledge she had. Both when it came to politics and practical solutions to things that should happen in the municipality. What do you lose now that she’s dead? – We have lost a fearless voice that dared to speak out and was clear in its message.
