Tore O. Sandvik interim climate and environment minister – news – Climate

It was Nidaros who reported the news first. Climate and Environment Minister Andreas Bjelland Eriksen (Ap) has parental leave from 2 September until the end of the year. Eriksen had her second child in January. Sandvik (Ap) has been county mayor in Trøndelag in the period 2003 to 2023, and is now state secretary in the Ministry of Business. This time, a “new” minister will be brought in from outside. In addition to the more ordinary ministerial tasks, there are several heavy issues awaiting the deputy, also internationally: At the turn of September/October, an action plan for nature will be presented. There is great excitement about the new nature report. The announcement is a follow-up to the nature summit in Canada two years ago, where the global Nature Agreement was adopted. In the agreement, all countries have undertaken to submit national plans for how they will follow up on the agreement. The Nature Summit (COP16) will take place in Cali, Colombia 21 October – 1 November. Here the minister will hire the Norwegian delegation. The meeting is the first after the nature summit in Canada, and will update the status of the work to implement the Nature Agreement. This year’s climate summit (COP29) probably starts a week later. It has been added to Baku in Azerbaijan, and will take place in the period 11 – 22 November. Here, the Minister for Climate and Environment has a very central role. At many climate summits, Norwegian ministers have been assigned to lead the negotiations on single topics in the negotiations. The climate negotiations are referred to as complicated, where many pieces of a large puzzle must fall into place through a hectic rush. This year, climate finance will be an important topic at the meeting. During the period when Andreas Bjelland Eriksen is on leave, work must also be done to the fullest extent to create a climate report that will come in the spring of 2025.
