28 February 2023 at 08:55 Hard-fought victory for Casper Ruud in Mexico In the comeback match after a break of a few weeks, Casper Ruud won over Argentine Guido Andreozzi in the ATP 500 tournament in Acapulco in Mexico. Ruud struggled to victory in the first match of the hard court tournament with the set numbers 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2). The match lasted two hours and 51 minutes. It was anything but a simple affair for Ruud in the extreme Mexican weather. The thermometer showed almost 30 degrees, while the humidity was 78 per cent. It resulted in a drenched 24-year-old, who really had to work to win the first set 6-4. The second set was no easier for the Norwegian either, who quickly ended up 0-2 down. Andreozzi continued to press and eventually won the set 6-4. The third and decisive set continued equally evenly, where Ruud had to struggle for advancement. He eventually won the set 7-6 (7-2) after the tiebreak. In the next round, the Snarøya boy meets the Japanese Taro Daniel, who knocked out JJ Wolf in his first match. Daniel is ranked number 125 in the world. Ruud is making a tournament comeback after a little over a month’s rest following the setback in the Australian Open, where he exited in the second round.
