TikTok can run away with our stream – Ytring

A data center with TikTok at the head is going to seize all the power we have. The mayor of Hamar is cheering for laws about 350 jobs. Proper prioritization of this flow could give us several thousand jobs in “the green shift”. Our local businesses are now uncertain when more electricity will be available for exciting projects in forestry and agriculture. TikTok is the complete opposite of what the mayor of Hamar, Einar Busterud, seems to believe. It is not actually a “digital training tool”. TikTok is one of the more extreme players in the attention industry. They use tailor-made algorithms to make children addicted, and it has been proven that these will cause great damage to children’s mental health in particular. It is actually not without reason that authorities in several countries are now surveying the potential damages, and this is being written about in international psychiatric journals. Only in China are the algorithms used to bring out young people who achieve and are diligent. There, TikTok actually has its own “educational” function. It is hardly a coincidence that young people in the West only get to see dancing and “challenges”, which can have disastrous consequences. The app requires full access on the mobiles it is installed on. It gives TikTok the ability to listen via the microphone, or check messages and see who you’re calling. That is precisely why the question of whether Justice Minister Mehl had TikTok on his official mobile got so much attention. This is a security issue and the National Security Authority has, with good reason, said that the data center Busterud extols must be investigated. I also note that the industry organization Abelia, the association for knowledge and technology businesses, says that we must use our power “smartly”, and that is “where it gives the greatest return”. My agreement stops at the term “smart”, but I would perhaps rather use the term “wise”. The nation of Norway is connected in a completely different way than a company. Our natural resources must be used for the best for us as a society, and then we must think long-term. In long-term investments, society looks at the whole, trade, district development, employment and the economy. Short-term gain may be smart, but for us as a society it is hardly wise.
