Three young people are suspected of starting a grass fire at Fitjar – news Vestland

– It is on the basis of witness observations that we believe we have found the right people, says Helene Strand, head of operations in the Sør-West police district. At 18.45 the police and fire service received a report of a grass fire on Fitjar in the Nordresjøvegen area. Several young people were seen running from the city. At the same time as the fire brigade worked to put out the fire, the police searched for the young people. The police eventually found three young people who matched the descriptions given by the witness. The police have spoken to them and their supervisors. – They do not recognize the relationship. The matter will now be investigated further, says Strand to news. We were lucky with the wind. There were fires in several different places. Two of the places where there was a fire were put out by witnesses or neighbours, while the fire brigade put out the third place. It was the fire that caught on the most. There was no great danger of the fire spreading to houses, boathouses and cabins in the area. – But it could have quickly gotten worse if there had been a bit of wind, says Svein Nesse, supervisor at the 110 central in the South-West. Difficult to get to – There is quite a lot of smoke, and it is burning in an area that is quite difficult for the fire engines to get to, said Kjell-Aleksander Skogsrud, who lives in the neighbourhood, to news around 7.30pm. He said that it was 100-150 meters from the fire to the nearest houses, and that there is a forest between the fire and the smoke. – There are fairly calm wind conditions here now, he said.
