La Abadía Theater to Showcase Three Productions at Bogotá’s FIAV
The acclaimed Teatro de La Abadía is set to make a significant impact as it crosses the Atlantic this March for the International Festival of Living Arts (FIAV) in Bogotá, Colombia. Scheduled to run from March 27 to April 5, this festival will showcase the vibrant culture of Madrid, serving as the international guest of honor.

La Abadía will present three of its best-loved productions at the festival, each demonstrating the theater’s commitment to innovative storytelling:
Little Red Riding Hood in Manhattan
- Created and directed by Lucía Miranda, this modern reimagining of the classic tale promises to engage audiences with its fresh perspective.
Mudecer con Hablar
- Directed by Abel González Melo, this show features works by Miguel de Cervantes and is designed to resonate with today’s audiences through the lens of classic humor and picaresque narratives.
Casting Lear
- A co-production with Barco Pirata, created by Andrea Jiménez and co-directed by Úrsula Martínez, this contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear has already won two Max Awards for best show and adaptation.
Expanding International Horizons
La Abadía’s participation at FIAV marks an important milestone in expanding its international reach. This effort follows a successful 2024-2025 season in which the theater explored various European collaborations. Notable projects included “There’s nothing left of all this,” presented in Brussels, and “Un sublime error,” co-created with Needcompany in Belgium.
Upcoming Performances
These productions are set to perform on March 31, April 1, and 2 at the festival. Following two consecutive seasons of sell-out shows and extensive tours across 20 Spanish cities, La Abadía is excited to gauge the Colombian audience’s reception.

Mudecer con Hablar also has a special significance, as it connects with the rich historical backdrop of the Corral de Comedias of Alcalá de Henares. Casting Lear has not only made a name for itself in Spain but is also set for future performances in Paris and an extended tour during the 2026-2027 season. Andrea Jiménez looks forward to meeting the “Colombian Lears,” further establishing a global dialogue around this contemporary adaptation.
The Bogotá International Festival of Living Arts aims to curate a platform for living arts, showcasing 30 selected works from over 200 proposals. This initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge and the Secretariat of Culture, Recreation and Sports of Bogotá, ensuring that the festival will serve as an essential reference point for artistic expression in Latin America.
