Eight days from the first round of the Polish presidential election, a few thousand people demonstrated on Saturday May 10 in Warsaw “Against illegal immigration” And against the pro-European government of Donald Tusk. Protesters, from all over the country to the call of nationalist organizations, bore white and red national flags and chanted and chanted “Here it’s Poland!” »» And “No to immigration! »».
Immigration has become one of the important questions of the electoral campaign before the first round of the presidential election on May 18. Poland welcomes around a million Ukrainian refugees and faces an orchestrated migratory wave, according to Warsaw, by Minsk and Moscow. The nationalist opposition also accuses the pro-European government of Donald Tusk of having “Abdicated” Faced with Germany on the migratory issue and let Berlin overwhelm Poland with migrants.
The demonstrators, who headed for the government’s headquarters, in the center of the capital, also chanted the name of Karol Nawrocki, conservative candidate for the presidency, supported by the Law and Justice Party (PIS, opposition). Mr. Nawrocki, 42, comes second in the polls, with around 25 % of voting intentions, behind the race favorite, Rafal Trzaskowski (32 %), candidate for the civic coalition (KO) by Mr. Tusk.
Tight race between Trzaskowski and Nawrocki
“Poland must defend itself against illegal immigration. Migrants have their countries, let them stay there ”told France-Presse (AFP) Boguslaw Uchmanowicz, 66, a farmer who came to Walbrzych in the southwest of the country. “The west, Germany invited them, while they maintain them at their expense and not at the expense of Poland”he added.
According to Waclawa Kur, 72, migrants are a threat to the security of the Poles. “We are fighting to continue living safe, happy and so that our children can walk safely”said this retiree to AFP.
A second round of the election, scheduled for 1er June, seems inevitable to designate the one who will replace the conservative president Andrzej Duda, whose second and last mandate matters. The polls provide a tight race between Rafal Trzaskowski and Karol Nawrocki.
