A starry sky that explodes in a sea of colors from New Year’s rockets. Many of us wish for such conditions when we launch the rockets on the last day of the year. But more people have to take out their umbrella or bubble jacket, says state meteorologist Martin Granerød. He has a little consolation in store: – The wind conditions will be quite calm, so there will be good conditions for launching the rockets. Photo: Screen dump: Meteorologists Yellow warning for wind But before we deal with the details of the New Year’s weather – and who will be the weather winners – we take a look at the next few days. The meteorologist says they have a messy weather picture to deal with, especially in southern Norway. – The low pressure comes in from the North Sea like pearls on a string, he says. On Thursday, we can expect a lot of mild weather in southern Norway. Night to Friday there will be snow which will gradually change to rain. Freezing rain leads to difficult driving conditions in several places. Many drivers have already noticed the demanding driving conditions. In the mountains of southern Norway, places exposed to strong south-easterly gales with snow and snow drifts are expected. Westerners must bring out the umbrella today. Here, there will be both rain and sleet, while the precipitation may come as snow in higher-lying areas. From Stad and Dovre and northwards, the wind will be the biggest challenge in the next few days. Meteorologist Martin Granerød says they have a messy weather picture to sort out. – Low pressure comes in from the North Sea like pearls on a string, he says. Photo: Kamilla Pedersen / met.no – Several yellow warnings for strong winds have been sent out, says Granerød. The wind can reach 30-35 meters per second in the strongest gusts. Otherwise, it’s mostly stay weather in this part of the country. Strong wind in the mountains Night to Friday and the first part of New Year’s Eve there will be a period of lighter weather in southern Norway. But a new low pressure comes in and brings with it increasing winds. Strong winds are expected in the mountains in the afternoon. – For those who will be driving between east and west in the next few days, it is best to drive at night or the first part of Friday, encourages Granerød. Further north in the country, the temperature will remain around 0 degrees. In Nordland, the wind direction will be south-easterly and mostly stay weather. The strong wind gradually decreases, but will increase on New Year’s Eve. This is how the weather will be on New Year’s Eve The last day of the year starts with snow showers from Stad and north to Troms. This was how New Year’s Eve was in Trondheim a few years ago. Photo: Kjartan Ovesen / news In the far north of Finnmark, there will be light snow on the plains, while in the outer regions it will mostly be warm weather. If we take the trip to Southern Norway south of Stad, there is greater uncertainty as to what the weather will be like. – It looks like there will be some lingering weather, but it is unsafe for precipitation. Who will be the weather winner on the last day of the year when the rockets go to heaven? If you had asked the meteorologist on Wednesday, the forecasts would point to Austlandet. Today you will get a different answer: – It may soon be parts of Vestland county that get the best weather on New Year’s Eve, but because of the frontal zone in the North Sea, it is uncertain how it will develop, says the state meteorologist.
