– I think people with bad advice get furious when they see that there is a small group making too much money. It is extremely provocative for people who have to choose whether to eat or keep warm, says Mímir Kristjánsson (Rødt). He points out that most of the power peaks work in municipal, county or state companies. – That people should earn several times more than the prime minister when they work for public Norway, I don’t think anything of that. The tax lists for last year were published on Wednesday. news has looked at the incomes of the top managers in the electricity industry. It shows an increase among several of the managers from 2020. (See full overview at the bottom of the case.) Earned the most According to the tax lists for last year, it was Knut Fredrik Kroepelien who had the highest income among the top managers. The rest is return on private investments. The Hafslund boss earned NOK 9.4 million. There are several electricity peaks that earned more last year than in 2020. Finn Bjørn Ruyter is executive director of Hafslund Eco, Norway’s second largest power producer. Last year, Ruyter had an income of just over NOK 9.4 million. The income has risen by approximately NOK one million from 2020. In Hafslund’s annual report from 2021, Ruyter is listed with a salary of NOK 4.3 million. Benefits in kind and pension costs are added. Last year, Ruyter topped the lists of the top earners, according to Nettavisen. Women on the top list Hilde Tonne was the woman with the highest income among the top performers. She is CEO of Statnett, and had a net income of just under NOK 9.3 million in 2021. Photo: André Bendixen / news Previous Statnett CEO, Auke Lont, earned 5.1 million in 2020. news is informed that a share of Tonne’s income is from before she was employed as CEO of Statnett. – The CEO’s salary is the same as the previous CEO had the year before, explains press contact at Statnett, Henrik Glette. Further on the list we find Hilde Merete Aasheim, who is CEO of Hydro. She had a net income of NOK 7.5 million in 2021. In Hydro’s annual report, Aasheim is listed with a basic salary of NOK 6.1 million. – Her salary as CEO of Hydro is determined by the board, and is not linked to Norwegian electricity prices, says communications manager Maria Melfald Tveten. This is shown by the tax lists The tax lists can tell a lot about Ola and Kari Nordmann’s finances, but they tell far from the whole truth. The figure that emerges is the net total for income and assets – after all deductions to which one is entitled in tax terms. In addition, they show what you have paid in tax. The income that appears in the tax lists is what in tax parlance is called ordinary income. It is wage income and all other taxable income, minus all deductions. Due to the deduction that “everyone” gets, the wage income and other income is often significantly higher than what appears in the tax lists. He received a bonus of NOK 802,000 in 2021. – Statkraft manages great assets for the community and needs many highly specialized and qualified employees with critical expertise both in Norway and in the company’s activities in renewable energy internationally, writes communications manager Lars Günther in Statkraft. He denies that salaries and allowances in the company are linked to the electricity price CEO of Elmera Group, Rolf Jørgen Barmen, had an income of NOK 4.7 million. Pål Skjæggestad in Glitre Energi earned NOK 3.6 million, while Eimund Nygaard in Lyse earned NOK 3.17 million in 2021. – People are furious Mímir Kristjánsson created the Facebook group Save Christmas for ordinary people! after electricity prices increased sharply this year. Here, several people share their financial problems, as a result of, among other things, increases in electricity prices. – The power system in Norway has not worked for the best for people in the last two years, so it is quite special that those who sit at the top and who are responsible for this should sit and rake in millions, says Kristjánsson. Mímir Kristjánsson is provoked by the chief salaries. Photo: Ole Berg-Rusten / NTB Nor does he believe that the salaries reflect the work the managers put into the companies. – It doesn’t do that in our society. By then, healthcare workers and nurses would all have been millionaires. There are many people in socially critical and vital professions who do not get paid a fraction of what the top earners get. In 2020, electricity prices were at record lows. In 2021 and especially 2022, electricity prices went through the roof. – The higher the electricity price, the more the peaks can earn from bonuses and other things. It is often the case on the tax lists that in good years things go well for those at the top, and in bad years things go well for those at the top, strangely enough. There is no reason to believe that the party is over for them anytime soon, says Kristjánsson. The tax figures do not show the entire real salary, but net income (ordinary income) after deductions, but before special deductions and net wealth (taxable wealth), and equalized tax.
