This is how a possible general strike will be framed – news Norway – Overview of news from various parts of the country

Mediation at the Riksmekleren starts at 10 a.m. on Friday. If there is no agreement between NHO on the one hand and LO and YS on the other, there may be a strike. 22,947 LO members from companies and industry across the country may be called out in a possible general strike. – We always aim to reach an agreement, but are well prepared for a strike, says LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik to news. On the link below you can read the full overview of which companies will go on strike first: – A development that must be reversed Among the companies affected are Ringnes, Mack, Aas, Hansa and Dahls breweries. Ringnes in particular is badly affected, which is mentioned 19 times in the overview. Several industrial workers and ferry employees are also affected. The overview, a notice of resignation, was published by LO on Tuesday. The employees will be called out in a possible strike from and including Saturday 15 April at midnight. – In the event of a conflict, LO plans to take out a wide range of industries across large parts of the country, Følsvik says. The LO leader believes that the development of the personal economy in the country cannot continue as it is now. – Two years in a row, the majority of employees have experienced that price growth has been higher than wage growth. This is a development that must be reversed. Their members should have their share of the cake, says Følsvik, who emphasizes that several companies are now operating with high profits. – Norwegian workers have taken responsibility for Norwegian working life through several challenging years. Our aim is to equalize differences between people and ensure that the employees get their share of the value creation. LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik. The front subject consists of industry which is exposed to international competition. It is their salary that is negotiated first. What is reached in these negotiations constitutes a framework for the rest of the salary settlement. YS has notified the Ombudsman about the resignation of 1,441 members. They have also notified about 16,300 members that their positions will be terminated. NHO: – Naturally, with the assistance of the Ombudsman The breach between the parties occurred on 30 March. Thus the Ombudsman had to step in. This year, the main unions, LO for the employees and NHO for the companies, will negotiate on behalf of everyone. 185,000 workers are involved. – It is disappointing that NHO did not want to meet the workers. Therefore, we must now ask for help from the Ombudsman in the hope of reaching an agreement there, Følsvik said about the breach. NHO’s chief executive Ole Erik Almlid followed up: – We must not end up with a settlement that goes beyond the companies’ competitiveness and opportunity to create and develop jobs. Unfortunately, we are so far apart that it is natural to ask the Ombudsman for assistance, he said. Real wage growth Earlier this winter, LO adopted its demands. Three main demands are real wage growth, equal pay and low wage supplements. Neda Karimi in the home service in Oslo told news how high prices have eaten up her salary increases in the last two years. Her salary is approx. NOK 450,000 a year, she said. Down Karimi. Photo: Anders Børringbo Overall, it can be said that there has been no real wage growth for eight years, says Geir Axelsen, head of the Technical Calculation Committee (TBU). – Total real wage growth from 2015 to 2022 has not been higher than around half a percent, he says. Roughly speaking, one can thus say that there has been no real wage growth since 2015. TBU assumes that price growth will be 4.9 per cent in 2023. Wage supplements must exceed this if there is to be real wage growth. The committee calculates the figures that the parties use in the salary settlement. NHO has replied that the companies’ competitiveness and earning capacity must be decisive in this year’s settlement. NHO points out that they have many different companies that may be affected differently by high wage requirements.
