Thinks the government is failing children and young people in institutions – news Vestfold and Telemark – Local news, TV and radio

Fisher is clear that it is the most vulnerable children and young people who are exposed to abuse and neglect, who do not get the help they need – It is the state’s responsibility to recruit institutional places, emergency places and foster homes. The municipalities do not have the money and staff to do that job. Ellen Fisher, head of child protection in Tønsberg. Photo: Igor Tratkowski On Wednesday, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) had to answer for himself during the so-called spontaneous question time in the Storting. – The Left Party’s parade branch, the Conservative Party’s Tage Pettersen, went straight for the government’s throat. – In recent years, the left has made it a point of pride to attack private welfare providers. The Storting representative believes that Støre & Co. worsens the situation by not facilitating more private providers of childcare services. Pettersen believes the government’s aim is to get rid of the private actors, but pointed out that time and time again they have to crawl to the cross. – In three years, the government spends 290 million on phasing out the private ones. The government’s estimate for full phasing out is an annual cost of at least DKK 700 million per year. – Must strengthen state institutions The Prime Minister acknowledged that society is dependent on private and commercial services for children and young people with the most complex and vulnerable needs. – We have a situation which is not good and which must not last. We must strengthen state institutions to take care of those who have the greatest challenges. Ellen Fisher thinks it is good that the Prime Minister is advocating to solve the problems, and that he sees the seriousness of the situation of the vulnerable young people. – I think it is positive that the issue is raised and that Støre will enter into a dialogue with the private and non-profit actors as well. However, Fisher does not hide the fact that she is excited to see how it develops in the coming months. – We will follow the situation closely, report deviations and stand up for this group. These young people don’t have time to wait. Scrolling up 70 million In question time, Støre made it clear that the government will spend NOK 70 million on more state and non-profit institutional places for children and young people. The money will be used both on completely new sites and the rehabilitation of state institution buildings. – We will need private players in the future. I believe that if we are to emphasize quality for the most vulnerable children, we are dependent on private offers, said the Prime Minister.
