– Thinking nothing – news Sørlandet – Local news, TV and radio

– I’m actually waiting for the reaction to come properly, says Silje Strømland. She is the mother of 17-year-old Emma Galdal Strømland, who was one of those who was seriously injured in a Russian car crash on the night of 1 May. – She remembers nothing from when the car started shaking and until she woke up in the ambulance, says the mother. The daughter is still affected by the accident and has therefore asked her mother Silje to tell about the incident on her behalf. It was early in the morning on Monday 1 May that the police received a report of a traffic accident on the E39 at Fosseland between Feda and Flekkefjord in Agder. A Russian car had driven off the road and was partially in the water. Five people were involved in the accident. All were characterized as seriously injured. Then she heard Emma’s voice say: “Mum, I’ve been in an accident”. At the time, she did not understand how serious it had been. – We got around and packed some clothes together, and when they called again after half an hour, they said they were flying her to Stavanger in a helicopter. The only thing she knew then was that her daughter was awake, but that her neck, jaw and shoulders hurt. – We got on the road, and news alerts started ringing on the phone. That’s when I realized it was quite serious. She tells about a healthcare system and crisis team that have been fantastic in following up right from the start. – While we were driving, they called from the emergency room in Stavanger and said she had arrived. Although it was awful to hear that she was in pain and regretted that we had to come, the follow-up was very good. Last week, one of the five involved was discharged from hospital. Steady improvement On Monday 8 May, news was informed that another one of the young people had been discharged. – He is in good shape. He operated on the femur at Ullevål hospital, but otherwise there are minor injuries, says the mother, who does not want to reveal the son’s name. Three are temporarily hospitalized. Headmaster Tor-Inge Rake at Flekkefjord secondary school comes back with continued good reports on Monday, a week after the accident. All the young people are still recovering. – There is a constantly varying degree of improvement, but there are glimmers of light there, says the principal at the school where everyone is or has been a student. The police or the health system have not released the exact health status of the young people. Now that the body is starting to recover, and one is familiar with the injuries one has received, it is the mental health that must now be taken care of, explains the mother. – She is a girl who likes to talk about things. He’s good at that, so it will probably help him. Now Emma’s discharge from hospital is approaching, and when Silje had to prepare her room for her return home, she had a reaction. – I had to sit down and laugh a little. I was just thinking about whether she hadn’t come home and that the room was empty. It would have been the nightmare. Now she is grateful that things have gone as well as they have, both with her and the other young people in the car. Three are still in hospital It is still too early to say anything about the cause of the accident. Police station chief in Flekkefjord and Kvinesdal Asbjørn Skaaland tells news måndag. One person is charged in the case because the police wanted a blood sample from the person concerned. The answer to the test has not yet arrived. The five who were involved in the accident were characterized as seriously injured. The police inform Fædrelandsvennen on Monday 8 May that three of those who were in the Russian car have been questioned, but that they cannot disclose what they have explained about the incident.
