The camera was close during a project that was costing them both their careers and their friendship. The documentary “WALL WALL WALL” follows Chirag Rashmikant Patel and Magdi Omar Ytreeide Abdelmaguid, the music duo in Karpe who repeatedly top their own projects. The first clips from the documentary show disagreements about priorities, ambition and how the band’s career should be designed. Lots of conflict – This is the first time we really get behind the facade of Chirag and Magdi. Now we meet the private individuals and the people behind the stage personalities, says one of the directors, Tommy Gulliksen. Tommy Gulliksen and Erik Treimann have made a documentary about one of Norway’s largest pop groups. Photo: Simen Øvergaard He and co-director Erik Treimann had access to almost 500 hours of footage, filmed by people close to Karpe during the work on a large concert project in Skien. Karpe bought Festiviteten in the city in 2018 to carry out a very ambitious concert experience for 100 selected fans. In addition, they made new music in the house that they released earlier this year. – That period in Skien has been a fierce ordeal for them. There has been a lot of conflict and a lot of resistance, but there is a bottomless and unique love here, says Gulliksen and emphasizes: – This is a film about friendship. But also about growing up in Norway as two second-generation immigrants, says Erik Treimann. Full creative freedom Karpe himself did not have the opportunity to be interviewed about the documentary. This is what Trine Jacobsen says in their record company, Little Big Sister, to NRK. But Chirag and Magdi have seen the documentary and are excited to show it, she says. Chirag and Magdi have given the filmmakers full freedom to portray them. – They were quiet when they saw it. They like it, but it should also not be very comfortable to be portrayed so closely, the documentary artists say. This is not the first time Karpe has made cinema films. The duo made a huge success in cinemas with the experimental concert film “Goodbye Montebello” in 2017. A film they themselves had more control over. The documentary «WALL WALL WALL», which to a greater extent will show the unique story of their career, premieres in cinemas on 17 June.
