These industries are hardest hit by the power shock – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

There are some industries that are harder hit than others. – These are the industries that use a lot of electricity for heating, for example those that melt things like iron and glass, hotels and gyms, says researcher Lasse Eika in Statistics Norway (SSB). After the electricity support meeting with LO and NHO last week, the Minister of Industry said that it is approaching agreed on measures for the business community. – Should be able to live with Norwegian industry describes the situation as very serious. On behalf of the Ministry of Finance, Statistics Norway has looked at the significance of increased electricity prices for various parts of the business community in Norway. The survey was carried out until July this summer – Our figures indicate that with the prices we looked forward to in July, these prices should be livable for most companies. And then there are some who have very large expenses for electricity, says Eika. Researcher Eika explains that they have calculated a “power shock factor”. It indicates the increase in power costs as a proportion of the company’s turnover. Difficult with low earnings He explains that the power shock factor is below 2 per cent in most te main business areas in southern Norway, where electricity prices are the highest. This means that the extra cost as a result of the increase in electricity prices amounts to less than 2 per cent of turnover in most industries. The electricity shock factor can be useful for identifying industries that are more or less exposed to changes in electricity prices. – However, some companies have received significantly higher electricity costs compared to turnover, which can be problematic for those concerned if they initially had problems with low earnings, says researcher Lasse Eika in a press release.
