Therese Johaug with an accident on the treadmill before the WC test race in Trondheim – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

– You can see a bit of it here. I was swollen, but it’s better now. Therese Johaug points to a mørbanka leg that is blue, pink and red. Another place on the calf is a crust in the process of healing. But the ski queen’s smile is back a week after a training session she will soon forget. On Tuesday last week, the national team was supposed to have roller skiing test races in Granåsen, where the WC in Trondheim will be held in February and March. However, due to wet asphalt and unfavorable weather conditions, the test was canceled out of concern for the safety of the athletes. – I didn’t dare go to the test run because it was so slippery, says Johaug. But little did she know that the alternative solution would expose her to even greater danger. A WEEK AFTER: The leg was swollen, bruised and cut. Saved by an emergency button: – Griseflaks The reserve solution was to take a trip on the conveyor belt to avoid an accident on Trønder’s asphalt four months before the WC. But running indoors is risky even for an experienced 36-year-old with countless training hours on the treadmill. – Guess who tripped and fell off the treadmill at speed? Jau, it was me, hires Johaug to news. And it could have been so much worse. Skiesset from Dalsbygda explains with great enthusiasm when she tells about the bizarre training experience: – I actually had great luck. I fell sideways, so my shoulder hit the emergency button on the mill, so it stopped. – Suddenly I was lying on the mill that was moving, but she almost had a chance to stop when I landed. I had pig luck, says Johaug, who emphasizes that it could have gone badly. SAW JOHAUG LYING AT THE MILL: National team friend Margrethe Bergane had to ask several times if Johaug was doing well. Photo: Terje Pedersen / NTB National team friend got a shock: – Her heart in her throat On the treadmill next to her, national team colleague Margrethe Bergane ran. – Margrethe was next to me and we both just said: “Wow, ok, what happened here?”. 23-year-old Bergane was promoted from the national team before this season. The session with Johaug was among their first together. – It happened very quickly, so I didn’t realize what happened, but suddenly she was lying on the ground. Then I got a bit of a shock and thought “shit, did it go well?”, says Bergane. – How much did you manage to think? – I didn’t have time to think. It happened so fast. Suddenly I looked to the side, then she was lying on the floor. Then I thought “oh, shit”. Her heart was in her throat for a second, says the national team friend, who adds that Johaug was quick to get back on his feet. – I had to ask several times: “Are you sure it’s going well?”. Because it didn’t look good. It was good it went as well as it did, says Bergane. It belongs to history that all is well for Johaug in Granåsen. The 36-year-old won the postponed test race, although there was also an unusual situation that scared her: NB! We would like to point out that Therese Johaug was a cross-country expert for news for the last two seasons. The employment relationship stopped early in the spring of 2024 when she made a comeback as an athlete. Published 23.10.2024, at 12.19
