Therese Johaug cried when she left her daughter – now she is testing the realism of a WC venture – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

It is no longer a secret that Therese Johaug is considering betting on the WC five-mile in Trondheim next winter, 9 March 2025. She already has 14 WC golds, but is tempted to try to take number 15 at a distance that did not exist for women last time she was active. The 35-year-old confirms to news that she is currently testing the realism of a new top venture. There are two things she wants to find out. One is how she fits physically. The second is how she will cope with being away from her daughter Kristin, who was born on 17 May last year. – It means a lot to see what the shape is like, and whether it is really possible or not. And perhaps mostly feeling the conscience at home and what it’s like, she says. EXERCISES A LOT: Therese Johaug trained over 60 hours in January, and feels that the physics fit better than the technique. Photo: Anders Skjerdingstad / news – Tuting Early on Wednesday morning, Johaug traveled from Oslo to work as an expert commentator for news during the Ski-NM Beitostølen. After the NM, she travels on to Switzerland to run her first ski race since Skarverennet almost two years ago. That means she won’t see her daughter for a week and a half. Kristin was born on 17 May last year and is, in other words, just over nine months old. In the past, they have not been away from each other for more than a day and a half. BECAME A MOTHER: On 17 May last year, Therese Johaug had her daughter Kristin. Photo: Eirik Fure / news – It was a hoot, says Johaug about the farewell. – It started with honking many days ago. But it has gone surprisingly well so far today, she notes after completing a two-hour training session on the National Championship trails. – Desire to go fast Johaug trains systematically, and has been doing so for quite some time. In January, it was over 60 hours. It is top sports training, not exerciser activity. She is laying the foundations for a World Cup bid. She will not compete at Beitostølen, but next weekend she will be back in competition in the 17 kilometer long Engadin Frauenlauf. Ideally, she should have gone to the Engadin ski marathon a week later, but it simply didn’t fit. – Once I have a starting number on my chest, I want to go fast, I have to admit that, she says. On 1 May, she will run the Grue half-marathon. It should also go quickly there. – The aim is to run in around 1.10, she says. It is worth mentioning that there are only four Norwegian women throughout history who have run during that time: Ingrid Kristiansen, Grete Waitz, Stine Larsen and Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal. The requirement for participation in this summer’s athletics EC is 1.10.30. CAN GO NM THREE MILES: Therese Johaug is considering signing up for the NM part 2. Photo: Anders Skjerdingstad / news Considering NM start Johaug is also no stranger to the idea that there could be more ski races by then. She confirms that it may be relevant to compete in the NM three-mile at Lillehammer on 23 March. – Yes, it would have been fun to try, she confirms. How she fares in the competitions will give her important answers on the physical level. But the fact that she stands up at all is also due to the fact that she already has some answers. In recent weeks, she has carried out several tests. – Then at least you get an honest answer about what the shape is like, she says. – What is the answer? – The answer is that I’m a long way behind where I’ve been, but it’s not “half-time”, either. So based on the training I’ve done and how the last year has been, I’m satisfied, says Johaug. When asked about a more detailed report from a regular running test on the mill Johaug has often used, she just smiles and says “no comment”. news is nevertheless aware that this test suggests that physically she already belongs to the top world elite in cross-country skiing. TRAINING TOGETHER: Therese Johaug and Helene Marie Fossesholm have dragged each other forward in winter – Photo: Anders SKjerdingstad / news – Will be right up there One who has been training a lot with Therese Johaug lately is Helene Marie Fossesholm. She, too, is secretive. – I have seen that Therese has been good. How good, I don’t need to comment on that, she smiles. Fossesholm also does not want to say whether Johaug should aim for the WC next winter, but she does not hide what she hopes for. HAS WON EVERYTHING: Three Olympic golds. 14 WC golds. 82 World Cup victories. That is Therese Johaug’s conclusion – so far. Now it can be more. Photo: Fredrik Varfjell / NTB – For my part, I hope that she will ski again. After all, she has been the best. And I think if she comes back I still think she’ll be right up there. But it must be because she feels like it herself, says Fossesholm, who herself goes on her first ski run of the winter on Thursday. Then Therese Johaug is at work for news. But if the next few months provide the answers she hopes for, it may be that the expert role this time around will be more short-lived than she had imagined.
