It happens after the IOC expressed two weeks ago that they would investigate a return of Russian and Belarusian athletes. The statement has met with strong opposition. At the meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj addressed the 30 ministers. – Zelenskyj urged that the world should stand together against Russia’s aggression, and pointed out the obvious, that when it comes to Russia there is no difference between politics and sport. There is no neutrality to speak of here. He received good support for that from the sports ministers who participated, says Trettebergstuen to news. – It is not relevant at all to look at letting the Russians go on the international sports arena now. We stand together behind that and we request the international sports movement and other countries’ authorities to support the same, says the Minister of Culture. UN expert Alexandra Xanthaki has called the ban “direct discrimination”. She believes the IOC violates human rights. – I think that the major human rights violations taking place today are Russia’s war against Ukraine.
