The women crush Klæbo & co. in popularity – Kalvå fell asleep during the WC race – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

– I understand that. It was a damn exciting year for women’s cross-country skiing. There were many who fought for podium places in every single race. There was also entertainment. Maybe not as good on the boys’ side, as there were 8-9-10 Norwegians at the top there every time, says Anne Kjersti Kalvå to news – and adds: – Both me and Tiril (Udnes Weng) fell asleep during the one WC practice to the boys. Last year’s comet doesn’t quite remember what distance they were looking at, but thinks maybe it was the relay. There, Norway took a superb WC gold. – In any case, we lay in the common room there and both fell asleep. Last year there were only Norwegians there, but this year it looks like at least one Finn will sign up. Maybe there will be a little more tension. KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN SO FAR: Anne Kjersti Kalvå is ready for the start of the season. She survived last weekend’s race at Beitostølen with a cold, but is ready for Ruka. Photo: Geir Olsen / NTB The figure is taken from the annual Nielsen report, commissioned by the International Ski Federation (FIS). It shows that the women had 519 million viewers in total during the World Cup, while the men had 367 million. This means that the women had 41.4 per cent more viewers than the men. – On the women’s side, there are perhaps a few more nations who are fighting for the winner. It helps to raise interest. It was very exciting last year with Tiril and what happened there. And not least on the sprint side with Maja Dahlqvist and Fähndrich, and the gang. So one can understand that, says Johannes Høsflot Klæbo to news. Hoping for more foreign profiles Skiesset believes it is better to track with new profiles such as Edvin Anger, William Poromaa and Iivo Niskanen back in action, and in addition a number of Frenchmen. He does not seem to understand that the WC relay was a sleepy affair. – That is perhaps the most brutal ski race that has ever been on that stretch. I think that when you see other types of ski races, that there are much more people and more people who can win. That is what we have to work for, says Klæbo. – What will it take to even out those differences then?’ – No, people have to train then, hehe. It’s as easy as that, and I think people do. READY FOR THE NEW SEASON: Manager dad Haakon Klæbo and Johannes Høsflot Klæbo are charging up for the race in Finland at Skeikampen. Photo: Ragna Kristine Sandholt / news The 2021/22 season was the difference of only 8 per cent more viewers for the women. Lotta Udnes Weng points out that women’s cross-country skiing has turned around a bit after Therese Johaug put an end to it and no longer shaved everything. She doesn’t think it’s so strange that the difference has been like this: – With the ladies, it was exciting. For the men, it was the Norwegian Cup, says Udnes Weng to news. Greater latitude for the women Personally, she thinks it’s fun to follow along, but that it can get boring when the dominance becomes too great. Among other things, she points to the chute at Lillehammer, where Norway has several athletes on the national quota. In the distance race, there were seven and nine Norwegians among the top ten. – We boast many good results and I understand that it can be boring for other nations to look at it, says Even Northug to news. READY TO START: Even Northug was on the podium three times last season. He took two second places in the sprint and one third place. Photo: Geir Olsen / NTB The results at the top show that there was greater international breadth on the women’s side: 27 out of 30 men’s races had Norwegian winners. France won two and Italy one. A total of seven different men’s water ski races. On the women’s side, seven nations came out on top with 14 different winners. Sweden took the most with twelve. Norway had nine victories. 63 out of 90 podium places on the men’s side went to Norwegians. The women took 28 out of 90, with the Swedes again dominating with 32 each. PS! The coming weekend starts the world cup with classic sprint, 10 kilometer classic interval start and 20 kilometer joint start in freestyle. Renna from Ruka can be followed on news Sport.
