The veterans joined in when Ken Rune Rasch did not get help back home after he was beaten in Thailand – news Trøndelag

Four weeks ago, Ken Rune Rasch (64) was hit and ended up in a wheelchair. Then he was in Thailand, where he has lived in recent years. The veteran received local help at a hospital over there, but he did not return home. He did not have travel insurance. Then the daughter, Kine Aune Dolmseth, contacted the Veterans Organization in Bergen. Joined fundraising campaign The case involved many Norwegian veterans, and the organization joined China in a fundraising campaign. – The splice had to be stopped abruptly after only one day, because then more than enough money had come in. Around 80,000 came in in 24 hours, says Stig Herjuaune, press contact at Veteran Midt-Norge. Among other things, Ken Rune has been out in three early UN contingents in Lebanon. Herjuaune thinks it was outrageous to see a man, who has sacrificed a lot for the country, stranded at a hospital in Thailand with a probe in his nose. Kine is very grateful for the help from the veterans, and is choked with tears when she thanks Stig and Arnstein. From left: Kine Aune Dolmseth, Stig Herjuaune and Arnstein Galåen. The money that was donated was used to get Ken Rune home to Norway by scheduled flight. There was also enough money for another person to be able to take care of him on the plane. Ken Rune had to sit in a wheelchair and had by no means managed to get through the long flight alone. He is partially paralyzed due to the blow, and has reduced language. His daughter Kine is very grateful for the veterans’ efforts. – If it had not been for you, he would not have been in the hospital here today at least, she says. Arnstein Galåen is deputy head of Veteran Midt-Norge. He was not surprised by the support from the veterans in Norway – This is something we learned when we were in the military and in the foreign service. No one left behind, he says. Did not get help when he got home But the difficulties in helping the war veteran did not stop with this. Well back home in Norway, there were also several challenges to ensure Ken Rune health care and follow-up. Because it had been agreed in advance that Ken Rune would get help at Steinkjer emergency room when he returned to Norway. That was not the case. – We were promised on Monday that we could come in with dad and get an examination. Then the doctor could make a decision on what we could do next. I believed in that completely, says daughter Kine, and continues: – We came in, but we were sent out again almost as soon. China perceived that the reason was that the father did not need immediate help. Here Ken Rune sits and waits for Steinkjer emergency room after a 30 hour journey from Thailand. I think that is terrible, he says. The police were notified of the incident. – Can not comment on individual cases Herjuaune requests that Ken Rune should receive immediate help. – We experience it as very strange. It is completely incomprehensible that he did not receive immediate help. Steinkjer emergency room does not want to comment on the case. – We can not comment on individual cases, but confirm that we have reviewed the incident and will look at our routines in the future, says unit manager for emergency services and medical services in Steinkjer municipality, Karin Randi Grøttum to news. Ken Rune had to wait 3-4 hours at the emergency room, before it became clear that he was going on to the hospital. China says that they have met a lot of resistance along the way. He knows no one where he has a residential address that could help him. Therefore, Kine changed his address to her place of residence in Steinkjer, but it was not done correctly the first time. – Then we encountered a new problem, which meant that he should not really receive treatment in Trøndelag. They wanted him down, she says. Fortunately, it worked out, and Ken Rune got a place at Levanger Hospital. China now has one piece of advice to give to others who are going abroad. – I advise everyone to have full coverage of what they can have coverage of. Make sure you know that there is a system around there that will take care of you if something should happen. Make sure you have contacts here in Norway who can assist, and start the right agencies, to get the help you need and are entitled to.
