The United States, France and several of the country’s allies are advocating a 21-day ceasefire in the border areas between Israel and Lebanon, the White House says. The statement also expresses support for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, says a statement from French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Joe Biden. The statement has received support from Australia, Canada, the EU, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, writes Reuters. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot told the UN Security Council earlier on Wednesday that the US and France are working on a proposal for a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon to facilitate negotiations.
