23 April 2023 at 02:39 The US evacuates the embassy in Sudan The US has evacuated its embassy in Sudan’s Khartoum with the help of US forces and in cooperation with the RSF militia, RSF informs. The evacuation took place on the night of Sunday with six aircraft in which American diplomats and their families were evacuated from Sudan. This is according to the paramilitary group RSF. According to RSF, the evacuation took place in cooperation between themselves and American forces. The Pentagon had not responded to inquiries from Reuters about commenting on the matter at 2.30am on Sunday Norwegian time. On Friday, the warring parties in the conflict – the RSF and the government army – entered into a humanitarian ceasefire which coincided with the celebration of the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. The ceasefire was supposed to last for three days, but there were still fighting in the capital on both Friday and Saturday. Over 400 people have been killed and more than 3,500 injured since the fighting began last Saturday, according to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO) (NTB)
