Since Monday, the UN General Assembly has discussed Russia’s annexation of occupied areas in Ukraine. Russia has declared four Ukrainian territories as Russian. This applies to Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya. This has been met with fierce international condemnation. Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt says that it is important that an overwhelming majority of UN member states have once again voted against Russia’s illegal annexation of Ukrainian lands: – This shows that Russia continues to be isolated. Today, Putin has once again received a clear message from the international community: This illegal war must end, says Huitfeldt. 143 countries chose to vote in favor, while 5 countries sided with Russia. It is Russia itself, North Korea, Nicaragua, Syria, Belarus. 35 countries abstained from voting, including India and China.
