The countries of Europe have on average experienced a temperature increase of 0.5 degrees every decade since 1991. According to the report from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the EU’s Copernicus programme, this increase is more than double the world average. As a result of the increase in temperature, Europe’s glaciers lost an average of 30 meters of thickness from 1997 to 2021, and the Greenland ice sheet melted significantly.
