The Swedish Road Administration advises people to change their tires – news Vestland

– As soon as you get over a thousand metres, you should have winter tyres, says traffic operator in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Tom Hansen. Hansen refers in particular to Sognefjellet, where the road was covered in snow in the morning hours on Thursday. However, Northern Europe’s highest mountain pass is not alone in causing traffic problems. – On Hardangervidda, the entire road is wet, and parts are covered with slush, Hansen points out and concludes: – People should be careful. It is a fact that people want to drive on summer tires for as long as possible, but then they have nothing to do in the mountains now. They should switch to all-season tyres, winter tires or studded tires – and rather charge that fee. – People should take that into account – How good are people at changing their tires in time? – From experience, definitely not everyone is equally good. For some, snow, frost and slippery roads come like “Christmas Eve at the old woman’s house” every year, says Hansen and adds: – The first slippery day in the big cities is always the busiest day of the year for us. Then it helps if people have followed our advice to change tyres. Because it should be completely unnecessary to be surprised by smooth road surfaces in 2024, Hansen believes. – We have so many good aids today with apps and websites, which are already reporting that winter is on the way. People should take that into account, says the experienced traffic operator, referring specifically to vegvesen.no, 175.no and Yr’s services. The Swedish Road Administration believes now is the time to change the tyres. Photo: Terje Pedersen / NTB – Weather changes can happen quickly State meteorologist Anne Solveig Andersen confirms that there can be sleet or snow at a height of over a thousand meters in Western Norway and parts of southern Norway. – It is stormy and variable where it hits, but especially in Western Norway there is a possibility of snow today and tomorrow, Andersen says. However, the slick in the big cities is still a long way off, according to the meteorologist. – We are not quite there yet. Southern Norway also expects higher temperatures over the weekend, says Andersen and points out: – But autumn is a period of very changeable weather. It can almost be a battle between summer and winter, and weather changes can happen quickly. It is therefore important to stay informed now.
