Last year, the Stavern Festival was going to try something new, which no major festival had done before. It didn’t go quite as planned. – Most of them did a good job. But unfortunately there were some who did not put in the work effort that was expected, says communications manager Jøran Kristiansen. Some summer temporary workers showed up, but suddenly disappeared during the shift. And someone didn’t show up at all. – We actually experience this year after year, says Kristiansen. LAST YEAR: This is what it looked like during last year’s festival in Stavern. Photo: Philip Hofgaard / news Known problem Working at a festival is a good way to experience the festival without paying for a ticket. Most Norwegian festivals are mainly run by voluntary work and voluntary employees. – The challenge is to get enough people. It can be about 7 to 800 pieces in 3 to 4 weeks, so there are many, says Kristiansen, who help run something that in recent years has become one of Norway’s biggest festivals. CHANGING TACTICS: The Stavern Festival returns to old solutions in order to get enough people for the event. Photo: Gry Eirin Skjelbred / news Both the Øyafestivalen and Bergenfest have experienced the same thing with volunteers who don’t do their job, confirm festival manager Frank Nes and PR manager Jonas Prangerød. But they say it usually goes well, because they have several volunteers as backup . Not surprised Several volunteers were not so engaged during their shifts last year, believes Ninni Bugge. She was one of the people who worked at the festival, something she has done every summer since she was 16. ONE OF 800 SUMMER VOLUNTEERS: Ninni Bugge was one of the many lucky ones who got paid to work at the Stavern Festival last year. This year there will be many fewer. Photo: Mads Thygesen / news – When you take a job, you are perhaps more concerned with getting paid, than what the job is actually about, Bugge believes. She saw several who showed dissatisfaction and who did not do what they were supposed to do on duty. This year, the Stavern Festival is investing in summer temporary workers, volunteers and volunteers. – We brought in several young, good resources last year, which we have brought back as summer temporary workers this year, says communications manager Kristiansen. He adds that they have good experience of working with sports teams and associations. They like to have some responsible adults who can manage the work in a good way, he believes. – I think that some of those who are growing up now may not have the experience of summer jobs and what is expected of them at work. The summer temporary worker does not recognize this, but she understands that it can apply to someone. – It is clear that there are young people today who are not engaged, but the motivation will probably vary. Personally, I do not recognize myself in the claim, concludes Bugge. FREE TICKET: There can be many advantages to working at a festival. One of them is that you get to experience festival life without paying for it. Many people are preoccupied with this. Photo: Akam1k3
