22 March 2023 at 16:06 Riksdag approves NATO membership The Riksdag in Sweden has approved the government’s proposal for NATO membership. 269 voted yes, 37 no. Parliament burst into applause after the decision was made. The historic decision means that Sweden gives up more than 200 years as a neutral and non-aligned country. Among today’s NATO members, only Turkey and Hungary have not approved Sweden as a new member state.
