The Quarry Reviews and Recommendations

Game developers Supermassive Games have really found their niche. The starting point in both “Until Dawn”, “Dark Pictures Anthology” series and the recently released “The Quarry” is the same. Imagine horror movies like “Scream”, “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Halloween” and “Evil Dead”, put yourself in the register and prepare for an interactive experience. It is your actions that determine the fate of the characters. CONTROL THE ACTION: You control the story of the game yourself, and have the fate of the characters literally in your own hands. The concept worked very well in the cult favorite “Until Dawn”. Here, all the big horror movie clichés got off the ground in a scary and effective story spiced with humor. From party to nightmare You are introduced to a group of young leaders at a summer camp for children in a closed quarry. The children have left, but the gang must stay one last night. On the other hand, mysterious things take place in the forest, and the last party of the summer quickly becomes a gruesome nightmare. The story is driven forward by you controlling the eight playable characters in separate chapters. The interactivity of the experience consists of walking around to find clues and objects you can use, as well as reacting quickly when the intensity is turned up a few levels. You also have to make choices in dialogue with others, or in the direction the character should move in, and this is especially where the game shines. You can use information from the past, logic or common sense to make smart choices. ROAD CHOICE: You must choose your own story line in the game, and may meet this person in one of them. If you choose wrong, or do not react quickly enough, the character you control may be completely out of the story. When the caption arrives, in the worst case, the whole gang may be dead. Horny young people Supermassive Games have obviously had fun at work here. The combination of horrible monsters, an exciting story with many possible ramifications and a gang of horny young people is mostly both captivating and successful. It also helps that you find many famous names among the actors, from the camp leader David Arquette to the narrator Grace Zabriskie, a scary Lance Henriksen, the grumpy sheriff Ted Raimi and a forest of famous faces from various TV series. CELEBRITIES: You feel several faces when you play “The Quarry”. Several of them have played in the horror movies the game is comparable to. There is a wonderful collection of different personalities here, and you will get to know most of them well. The work the developers have put into giving the characters more layers and advanced personalities has a natural function in the experience. It really hurts if some of your favorites die. Underdeveloped finish On top of this, the opportunity to be up to eight simultaneous players is absolutely gorgeous. Then you each control your own character and take turns holding the hand controller. Unfortunately, this stylish structure collapses in the overly hectic and underdeveloped ending. It seems like the developers have run out of time or ideas, maybe both. The overall impression, however, is quite good after the disappointment over the end has subsided. It’s easy to recommend “The Quarry” to adult horror movie enthusiasts, especially if you have someone to share the experience with. PS: It is currently only possible to share the experience with others on the same screen. Online collaboration comes in an update later this summer. news reviewer Photo: Supermassive Games Games: «The Quarry» Genre: Horror Age: 18+ Platform: PS5 (tested), PS4, Xbox and PC Developer: Supermassive Games Publisher: 2K Games Release date: June 10, 2022 Heisann!
