The public prosecutor drops the cases against the politicians in the commuter housing cases – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

– The Oslo State Attorney’s Office has decided to drop the cases, writes the State Attorney. In the statement of reasons, they wrote to Aftenposten that “the opinion of the state attorney speaks with particular force against the fact that they have found a criminal offense and the case is dropped for all the suspects on the basis that criminal intent is considered proven.” Today, the police have also dropped the investigation into former Storting President Eva Kristin Hansen. She says it has been a demanding time. – For over a year, I have been under constant pressure about the Storting’s arrangements, have been blamed for too much and have occasionally had a media storm which has been very demanding, Hansen tells NTB. Hansen had to step down as president of the Storting after critical issues about her commuter housing use. The case is dismissed as no criminal offense is considered proven. – Several mediums have had erroneous reports about me, which I think should be followed up, says the former Storting president. Photo: Fredrik Hagen / NTB – This is a completely clear acquittal of Hansen, where the state prosecutor both assumes that she has followed the regulations as it should be understood and in accordance with my opinion when she was forced to resign as Speaker of the Storting last year, says Hansen’s lawyer, John Christian Elden at Elden Advokatfirma, in a press release. Elden writes that the postponement comes a year too late, because the matter has been completely decisive for the Storting’s composition and working method. He believes that this is unfortunate for democracy. – Eva-Kristin Hansen is very relieved that it has now been established that she has never demanded or received benefits from the Storting that she was not entitled to, and that the criminal case against her has now been closed as no criminal offence, says Elden.
