Gun Incident Shakes Bogotá Neighborhood: Implications and Reactions
On July 13, 2025, an alarming incident unfolded in the Mazurén neighborhood of northern Bogotá when a woman discharged a firearm from her apartment balcony, sparking panic among nearby residents. Eyewitness accounts described the chaotic scene as spectators recorded the shocking event, later sharing the footage on various social media platforms.
Multiple locals reported hearing distinct gunfire emanating from a residential complex. A video captured by concerned residents depicts the woman brandishing a firearm during a gathering inside her apartment. Surrounded by several men, one attempted to wrestle the weapon away from her moments after the shots were fired.

In her unsettling declaration, the woman was heard expressing, “I look divine like this … tas, tas, hijue …! A 9 millimeters. If they do not know, come, let them present themselves. Don’t you know a 9 mm weapon? Come home and present yourselves,” showcasing a brazen attitude towards the shocking event.
Bogotá Metropolitan Police intervention further fueled tensions. Reports indicate that amid mounting pressure, a male companion of the woman emerged from the apartment, asserting in a defiant tone his status as a lawyer and claiming the authorities required a court order to enter, thus aggravating the situation.
“The Police confronted one of those involved, who cheekily proclaimed he was a lawyer, insisting the police could not enter without a court order. How much more must citizens endure the abuses of those who flout the law?” questioned a resident named Luis.
On July 14, news emerged that the Attorney General’s Office had initiated an investigation against the woman in connection with this gun incident, as reported by Blu Radio.
The community’s alarm resulted in immediate action from CAI Mazurén police officers, who responded to the incident after receiving reports. Despite their efforts to contact the building’s administrator, they were unable to gain access to the apartment. However, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that they have obtained the administrator’s information to initiate an assembly and determine the next steps.
According to the Single Judicial Police Manual established by the Attorney General, the term “criminal news” refers to “knowledge or information acquired by the Judicial Police or the Attorney General’s office, through public servants related to one or several actions embodying criminal characteristics, expressed through diverse forms or sources.”
In essence, a person discharging a firearm unlawfully might face significant penalties for each violation, potentially compounding within the same judicial case:
- Freedom penalty from 9 to 12 years.
- If there are aggravating factors (such as the utilization of an unauthorized weapon), the sentence may be increased to 18-24 years.
Should the individual possess legal permission to carry the weapon, article 356a stipulates sanctions for improper use (shooting in the air without a valid defense):
- Penalty of 1 to 5 years, combined with the cancellation of the permit and a 20-year prohibition from obtaining a new one.
It’s crucial to highlight that these penalties apply solely if the individual transferring the firearm already has relevant authorization. If the weapon’s possession is deemed illegal, the harsher penalties outlined in article 365, along with the stipulations of article 356a, would take precedence.
This incident not only raises pressing questions regarding community safety and law enforcement efficacy but also portrays a concerning culture towards gun ownership and responsible behavior in urban locales. Residents are left yearning for increased accountability and stringent measures against individuals exhibiting reckless behavior with firearms.
