The police drop the criminal case against Hent As and Kranor As after the crane overturn in Melhus – news Trøndelag – Local news, TV and radio

A woman died when the large construction crane collapsed over the Melhustorget shopping center on 6 January last year. Two other people were slightly injured. Hent AS and Kranor AS had status as suspects in the case. For Kranor AS, the case has been dismissed as no criminal offense has been proven. For Hent AS, the case has been dismissed and transferred to the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority. – The case has been dropped because the police investigation has not revealed that there is a basis for any criminal liability. This is what state attorney Jarle Wikdahl says to news. Cannot determine the cause The public prosecutor has reached the same conclusion as the police; that the investigation cannot establish beyond any doubt the cause of the rollover. “Based on the expert report on geotechnics and statics, it is assumed, however, that the most likely cause of the crane overturning was that the distance between the concrete wall/hole cover above the basement and the crane base’s foundation ballast was so small that contact had occurred”. Without the forces of the wind, there is no indication that the crane would have fallen. But something may have played a role, according to the police. Among other things, the crane was built with maximum utilization in terms of height and weight in the relevant wind zone. A canvas was also installed at the top of the tower, which increased the wind protection. A woman died after the construction crane collapsed. There was no one inside the crane. The crane was 63.9 meters high, with a jib of 65 metres. Survivors informed The woman who died was in her 50s and a resident of Trondheim municipality. The Trøndelag State Attorney’s Office writes in a press release that the bereaved have been informed of the decision. There is also the shopping center and the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority.
