The man in his 60s was found on Sunday night. He had been out for a walk, but had not returned. So the family went to look for the man. He was then found dead in a grazing area on Grytøya in Harstad municipality. – It is not known to us that the man has any connection to farming, says section leader for investigations at Harstad police station, Heidi Heggen. The police will not conclude what is the cause of the death, but are working on the basis of several hypotheses. One of them is that cows grazing in the area may be part of the explanation. – We have not set the attack by cows as the main hypothesis. We are investigating broadly, and must also assess whether there may be other things that have happened, says Heggen. He grew up and lives in the area where the man was found. – There is a man we all know who has passed away. We know little about how it happened, but it is just as tragic for both him and his family, he says. Eriksen says that many people wonder what has happened, and that there are several different theories. – But I think we should be very careful about speculating about what has happened. All we know is that he’s dead, and that’s as tragic as it gets. The death took place in a grazing area, not too far from the settlement on the island. – It is an area that we locals use to travel in, and a completely natural place to go for a walk, says Eriksen. Grytøyværingen says that the incident has not made him more anxious to go for a walk on the island, but that it is still a cross of thought. – It has scared people, and the uncertainty about what has happened is something that affects everyone. The man was found in this area on Grytøya, which is just outside Harstad. The deceased has been sent for an autopsy. – It will take a few days to find out what caused the death, says Heggen. – While we await the results of the autopsy, we continue the investigation and see if there is more information we can collect.
