The police are investigating a serious animal case in Trøndelag – 200 dead pigs – news Trøndelag

The police were notified on Monday evening by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority about a possible animal tragedy on a farm in Trøndelag. The police went to the farm together with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and found what they currently estimate to be over 200 dead pigs. 76 surviving animals were also found and it was decided to euthanize them. – This is a very serious matter. We are now focusing on mapping and documenting the extent, and how this has happened, says Amund Sand, the prosecution officer in the case at Trøndelag police district. Carry out crime scene investigations The police have launched an investigation and the owner of the farm has been charged under the Animal Welfare Act section 37, second paragraph, compare section 24. The police’s forensic technicians will document and carry out crime scene investigations, with assistance from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority. The police will also question the owner and others connected to the farm. – We are still early in the investigation, but so far the information we have indicates that the animals have not received supervision and care over a long period. It is an animal tragedy, says Sand. Meeting the press The police will meet the press at Steinkjer police station at 2.30 pm to provide more information about the case. Prosecutor Sand will attend the press conference, and it is not yet known in which municipality in Trøndelag the incident is said to have occurred.
