The palace says no to a photo deal: – Neat, says royal house expert

Only two mediums get to take pictures when Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett get married in Geiranger on 31 August. One of them is the British weekly Hello! Magazine, the couple confirmed on Wednesday. That agreement will not be adhered to by the rest of the members of the royal house, the Palace confirmed to news on Wednesday. They do not want Hello to take their picture when the rest of the press does not have access. – It is orderly that the Castle in a way reserves itself against other media, which are part of a commercial agreement, taking their picture. Ole-Jørgen Schulsrud-Hansen, royal house expert on TV 2, thinks so. – King Harald has always been tidy. He describes the royal house as people who attract extra attention, who thus have their own value in being filmed and photographed. Royal palace expert on TV 2, Ole-Jørgen Schulsrud-Hansen, thinks it is wise for the castle not to follow the exclusive photo agreement for the bride and groom. Photo: Javier Ernesto Auris Chavez / news The royal house expert believes that it is precisely the commercial element that makes the royal house want to reserve itself in this way. – I would assume so. Because King Harald has always been so tidy with these couplings, says Schulsrud-Hansen. He thinks this is a wise choice on the part of the royal house. – I think it’s nice when there has been so much controversy surrounding the use of the princess title, for example. Reaction between the lines – Is this the start of several conflicts between the royal house and Märtha Louise? – No, I don’t want to believe that. But this is perhaps a form of consequence or statement that, at any rate, I would like the Castle to come up with. That it comes a little between the lines, more than directly, as a reaction to the breach of the agreement, which, for example, the princess’s gin has been, he answers. Schulsrud-Hansen nevertheless sees a small bright spot in how the bride and groom and Hello! Magazine has dealt with the situation until now. The British weekly Hello! Magazine has bought the exclusive rights to the picture during the wedding. Photo: Stian Lysberg Solum / NTB In the press release about the photo deal, the weekly does not use the title of princess; they only refer to her as the daughter of the king and queen of Norway. – Then it may seem that they remember that from time to time, that her title should not be used commercially. Thinks the royal house will stick to the same practice The royal house expert receives support from Reidun Kjelling Nybø, secretary general of the Norwegian Editors’ Association. She also thinks it is wise for the royal house to withdraw from the agreement the bride and groom have made. – That way they avoid being part of the hall of justice. Reidun Kjelling Nybø of the Norwegian Editors’ Association is critical that the bride and groom do not want the press to cover the wedding as an ordinary event. Photo: Lise Åserud / NTB – The way I interpret it, the royal house is now signaling that they do not wish to be part of the exclusivity agreement that the bride and groom have entered into. Instead, they wish to continue to stick to the practice they have had in the past, in relation to Norwegian media, Nybø continues. Will not share details with the public The bride and groom will not share the guest list, the program or other details about the wedding with the public. Many expect the wedding of Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett to be a big event, but the bride and groom themselves do not want the public to know so much about it in advance. Photo: Geir Olsen / NTB The basis for this is that the wedding is a private event. In a press release on Wednesday, they wrote that it is gratifying that many people want to take part in the celebration. – This great interest nevertheless places very high demands on capacity, security and logistics. We have therefore chosen to enter into an exclusive agreement to cover the wedding ceremony and the party with Hello! Magazine, they wrote among other things.
