The following week, the Nettavisen program was at the very top. What is Podtoppen? Podtoppen is Norway’s official top list and measurement of Norwegian podcasts. The website was launched in January 2020. Measurements are a joint venture between news, Schibsted, Bauer Media, the P4 group and Moderne Media. Every Wednesday at 12 the listener numbers from the previous week are released. Podcasts behind payment walls are not included in the list. Last week, Journalisten was the first to say that several people have wondered about the steep curve of the podcast that released its first episode in April. Weakening legitimacy One of those who has questioned the listener numbers in recent weeks is Martin Sleipnes, host of VG’s sports podcast Enkel Servering. “I have never seen such numbers and such growth before,” he told news last Thursday. Sleipnes and other podcast colleagues have commented on Twitter in recent weeks. He said that the reactions do not come from the fact that Nettavisen does not deserve such figures, but that imprecise results can destroy Podtoppen’s reliability. – It is not clear where the numbers come from, and I do not understand who is listening to it. I’m just asking if Podtoppen is a legitimate list. Now that Nettavisen has chosen to withdraw, he is excited to see what the real listener numbers really are. – I think that since they choose to pull it, it means that something is wrong. I think that is well done by Nettavisen, he says to news today. Unfortunate Petter Sommer is the podcast manager at news and sits on the steering group for Podtoppen. He told news last week that several on the board thought it was strange that Nettavisen had had such great growth. – Now there is no reason to accuse anyone of cheating with the numbers. At the same time, I know how much it takes to achieve such numbers and I am not surprised if we find fault. He thinks it is unfortunate that many in the industry have begun to doubt the numbers. – Kantar and the steering group work all the time to ensure that the result is the best possible.
