The Norwegian Competition Authority allowed Nordea’s acquisition of Danske Bank – Latest news – news

15 December 2023 at 07:51 The Norwegian Competition Authority permits Nordea’s acquisition of Danske Bank The Norwegian Competition Authority has today informed Nordea that the Norwegian Competition Authority has permitted the acquisition of Danske Bank’s personal customer business. This is what the Norwegian Competition Authority wrote in a press release on Friday morning. – The Norwegian Competition Authority has now thoroughly assessed the acquisition, and concluded that Nordea’s acquisition of Danske Bank will not significantly impede effective competition in the banking market. Thus, the acquisition can be carried out, says competition director Tina Søreide. The Norwegian Competition Authority was notified of the acquisition on 3 October 2023. “The banking market is a large and important market for Norwegian consumers. It has therefore been necessary to assess Nordea’s acquisition of Danske Bank’s personal customer business more closely,” writes the inspectorate. The sale was announced in July this year. The Home Owners’ National Association was then critical of the hall, and thought it would weaken competition in the market. “Well-functioning competition is crucial for Norwegian bank customers to pay the lowest possible interest rate on their mortgages. Consumers themselves can contribute to ensuring that the competition works as well as possible by being active in the market,” wrote the inspectorate in the press release on Friday.
