– When you see what Erling does, you think “hell, maybe it will work?”. That’s what national team player Kristian Thorstvedt says with a smile to news. Thorstvedt has played with Haaland both on the Norwegian U national team and now on the A national team. Few know more about the jærbow’s off-field habits. He admits that he is inspired by his mate’s focus on details, and offers a concrete example from the previous national team meeting. Was surprised by Haaland’s food Then Norway had beaten Austria at Ullevaal and the gathering was to be rounded off with some simple and good food. – Then we sat at the buffet, and burgers and pizza were served, which I helped myself to. Then I look across the table, where Erling is sitting with rice, salmon and broccoli on his plate. Then I got a reality check, chuckles Thorstvedt. I knew he had an important game the following weekend, he was probably thinking about it. I hadn’t gotten that far in my thought process. There you have some of the differences, Thorstvedt adds. – Does it happen that the rest of you try to imitate what he does? – I think everyone in the whole world does. We are closer to him and can talk to him about these things. It’s little things, like these red glasses and things like that. But he is extremely professional, but it spreads, so it is only positive, says Thorstvedt. Haaland to news: – Makes better choices than you do When asked by news if Haaland can take us on a review of what he eats on a normal day, the striker replies as follows: – I can’t bear to go into details. I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner just like you do. So I make slightly better choices than you do about certain things, especially at weekends, Haaland answers to news’s reporter – and smiles broadly. ALL FOR NORWAY: Erling Braut Haaland thrives in the national team. Photo: Terje Pedersen / NTB In the podcast “You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker”, the City full-back says that the Norwegian has had a big influence on the Manchester City players’ habits. – He demands a lot, but in a good way. He is concerned about the treatment he gets, he likes massage, ice baths, all the juices he drinks have to be right. I think he is very professional and takes care of his body. But the food has changed (at City since Haaland arrived), I can tell you that. Everything has been raised a notch. We thank him for that, says Walker in the podcast. When asked what is on the menu at City now, he replies: – Norwegian salmon, raw milk … He has brought all this (to the club). But to be honest, he looks after the boys here, says Walker. – Was probably harder on the marzipan cake Jørgen Strand Larsen is not afraid that his striker colleague misses something in the national team either. – He gets salmon and raw milk here anyway. I think he can be happy with the food here, but otherwise in the group he is very important to everyone. He has a great voice. It’s not so strange when you are as famous and as good as he is, says Strand Larsen to news. – He gets raw milk here too, right? – He does it. So I think he is “happy”. National team manager Ståle Solbakken says he has not studied what Haaland has on his plate during training. – But he eats from the same buffet as us. Maybe we eat the same some days, different on other days. I was probably harder than him on the marzipan cake when Mathias Dyngeland had his birthday, says Solbakken to news with a smile. – Eats real food When Haaland himself was a guest on “The Official Man City Podcast”, he was asked about his diet. When asked what is the secret behind the raw physique, the Norway striker replied: – Short and simple: I eat food that is real, with as few ingredients as possible. There is so much ultra-processed food in the world right now, so I think it is important to eat real food, and of course of good quality, said Haaland. This is how Ståle Solbakken responds to questions from news about whether Haaland’s focus on detail has also had an impact on what is organized around the Norwegian A national team. – I think perhaps we are being challenged on exactly that. It doesn’t just apply to City. When you get players in the teams with the most resources in Europe, we cannot offer the same facilities. We cannot offer the same type of refund options where we are. There will be a difference there. I think so and can be a bit charming, he says. ADAPTERS: Ståle Solbakken is open to Erling Braut Haaland receiving special treatment. Photo: Vegard Grøtt / BILDBYRÅN He says that it is particularly the training conditions and the arrangements around the training sessions at the assembly that are difficult to get to be at “City level”. – They can go straight out onto the field, while we sit in a bus. But we are “happy” with that, we. Admits special treatment Solbakken is open that they have chosen to give special treatment to Haaland in certain areas in order to appease the team’s biggest star. – We have run it as far as we can. Erling is, for example, allowed to bring Mario Pafundi (physio) with him to the meeting, but it is not possible for everyone to bring their own physiotherapist. I have to be honest about that. If Jens Petter Hauge comes to me and says he’s going to have his own physio now, he won’t get it. It is a “special thing”, says Solbakken. The national team manager adds that he feels confident that the other players respect and understand the special treatment of the star striker. – Is there anything Erling has asked for that you have not agreed to? – If we were to say yes to everything that City can offer, then we would have to halve the rest of the support system. We are not close to being able to do that, neither in terms of costs nor in terms of facilities, he says.
